‘Rainbow Baby’ has become the popular term given to a baby born after a loss such as miscarriage, infant loss or stillbirth.
The “Rainbow Baby” derives from the metaphorical concept of the beauty of a rainbow that appears after a terrible storm, symbolic of the dark and turbulent time that comes with loss and grief. It is a term that has come to symbolise hope and healing for families who felt they had none. Rainbow babies can have a powerful impact in helping parents heal after a loss.
Losing a child is every parent’s worst fear. For anyone that hasn’t been though it, they could never fathom how it feels. This is why it is important to talk about Rainbow Babies, talk about infant loss and spread awareness. The Rainbow is bright, colourful and is meant to stand out. It’s symbolic of light coming out of darkness and is something to be celebrated. Just like the birth of a Rainbow Baby.
Here at Alma’s Home Studio, we love nothing more than to help families celebrate their beautiful Rainbow Babies, creating images they can cherish forever. We know how very special they are, which is why throughout June, July and August, we will be accepting nominations for one family each month to receive a gift of a Newborn Rainbow Baby session with 10 digital images - completely free of charge. Just send their story to alma@almashomestudio.co.uk , to be in with a chance.
Although expecting a Rainbow baby is exciting, it is normal to fear that the same thing may happen again. Remember that if you have any concerns about yours or your baby’s health, your doctor or midwife is never going to turn you away. They would rather offer reassurance 100 times, than you not seek help if there is a real problem. That is what they are there for and they do understand your concerns and fears.
